BJP criticises CM’s conduct in Assembly, raises issues of governance and daily wagers

Jammu, Feb 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government, alleging that the dignity of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was being undermined and that key electoral promises remained unfulfilled across the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, BJP spokespersons Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia and Dr Tahir Chowdhary, along with Media Incharge Dr Pardeep Mahotra, accused the government of diverting attention from governance issues.
Dr Jasrotia condemned what he described as repeated disruptions in the Assembly and termed the Chief Minister’s conduct as inappropriate and inconsistent with the decorum of the House. He alleged that the disturbances appeared aimed at shifting focus from pressing public issues and governance challenges.
Stressing the importance of maintaining the dignity of the legislative institution, Dr Jasrotia said the Assembly represents all sections of society and that those holding high office must act with restraint and responsibility. He called on the Chief Minister to restore decorum and ensure constructive functioning of the House.
Questioning the government’s performance, he said the administration should present a clear account of its achievements and address public concerns. He added that political differences were natural in a democracy but responsible leadership and mature governance were essential.
Raising livelihood concerns, Dr Tahir Chowdhary highlighted the situation of nearly 40,000 daily wage workers in the Union Territory, alleging that delays in wage payments and lack of job security were affecting thousands of families. He said the issue required urgent policy intervention and clarity on budgetary provisions.
Chowdhary also pointed to alleged gaps in the implementation of welfare measures, including promised benefits related to electricity, LPG, ration supplies and transport services for women. He claimed that beneficiaries were facing difficulties in accessing these schemes on the ground.
The BJP leaders said the party would continue to raise the concerns of daily wage workers and the general public at appropriate forums and urged the government to prioritise governance, economic stability, youth welfare and orderly functioning of the Assembly.
