JAMMU, FEBRUARY 14: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) organised a day-long workshop on “Ethical Journalism and the Evolving Landscape of Journalism” for media professionals at the Media Complex in Jammu on Saturday focusing on strengthening ethical standards in the rapidly evolving digital media environment.
The workshop was aimed at sensitising journalists and communication practitioners to the changing dynamics of journalism and reinforcing the importance of ethical practices in the digital age.
Regional Director of Indian Institute of Mass Communication Jammu, Dr. Dilip Kumar, and Assistant Professor Vishav participated as resource persons. They discussed emerging trends in journalism, the challenges posed by misinformation, and the growing influence of digital platforms on news dissemination and consumption. The speakers also highlighted ethical concerns in modern journalism, particularly in the context of the expanding use of artificial intelligence and digital tools.
Addressing the participants, Director Information Nitish Rajora stressed that journalists play a crucial role in shaping informed and balanced public opinion. He noted that in an era of instant information flow, adherence to principles of accuracy, fairness, objectivity and accountability is more critical than ever.
He also underscored the need for continuous professional capacity building to keep pace with technological advancements and evolving audience expectations. Emphasising stronger engagement between DIPR and the media fraternity, he said the department intends to institutionalise regular interactive programmes and gatherings for journalists.
In his welcome address, Joint Director Information (Headquarters) Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina spoke on the contemporary role of the media and emphasised the importance of credibility and fairness in journalism.
Joint Director Information, Jammu, Deepak Dubey, in his concluding remarks, reiterated the significant role of media professionals in the digital era and said similar workshops would be organised in the future to enhance collaboration between media institutions and government departments, promoting professional excellence, transparency and responsible journalism.
The workshop also featured an interactive session in which participants shared professional experiences and sought guidance on ethical issues encountered in their work.
Deputy Director Information (PR) Javid Ahmad Rather, Information Officer Alka Misra and other DIPR officers and officials were present. Journalists from various national and local media organisations attended the programme. ANB
