CPCO Calls for Public Participation as Census 2027 Preparations Gather Momentum in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, JUNE 6: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) Amit Sharma, who also serves as Director of Census Operations for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, on Saturday briefed media representatives in Baramulla on the upcoming Census of India 2027, emphasizing the importance of public participation, awareness, and accurate data collection. Addressing a press conference at Dak Bungalow Baramulla, Sharma described the Census as the country's largest administrative and statistical exercise, underscoring its critical role in governance, development planning, and socio-economic policymaking. He outlined the objectives, methodology, and key features of Census 2027, stating that the exercise would be carried out in a systematic and scientific manner through designated enumerators and supervisors. He elaborated on various components of the census process, including household listing, collection of demographic and socio-economic information, integration of digital technology, and safeguards to ensure the accuracy, transparency, and confidentiality of data. The CPCO informed that citizens seeking information or clarification regarding Census 2027 can avail assistance through the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1855. Appealing for public cooperation, Sharma urged residents to provide accurate information during the enumeration process, noting that reliable census data serves as the foundation for effective policymaking and developmental initiatives. Highlighting the media’s role in the national exercise, he called upon journalists and media organizations to disseminate authentic information and generate widespread awareness about Census 2027 to encourage maximum public participation. The press conference was attended by Arun Kumar, Joint Principal Census Officer; Vijay Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer; the District Census Officer, Baramulla; and the Chief Planning Officer, Baramulla, who is serving as the district’s Nodal Officer for the Census.
