DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Multi-Layered Security Plan for Amarnath Yatra-2026

Srinagar, June 22: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday chaired a high-level Security Review Meeting (SRM) to assess the security situation in South Kashmir and review preparedness for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 (SANJY-2026), directing all security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure seamless inter-agency coordination for the annual pilgrimage. The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Army, Victor Force, CRPF, BSF, ITBP and Jammu & Kashmir Police deployed across South Kashmir. Senior Superintendents of Police from the concerned districts presented detailed briefings on the prevailing security scenario, counter-insurgency operations, threat assessments and the security arrangements being implemented along the Yatra route. Reviewing the operational readiness of all security formations, the DGP directed officers to maintain enhanced surveillance across the pilgrimage corridor, ensure continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations and strictly enforce all security protocols to provide a safe and secure environment for pilgrims. Emphasising the importance of a coordinated security response, Prabhat called for close operational synergy among the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Army and Central Armed Police Forces. He instructed all agencies to strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improve communication networks and maintain effective coordination to respond swiftly to any emerging security challenge. The meeting also reviewed the prevailing counter-insurgency scenario in South Kashmir, with discussions focusing on preventive security measures, area domination, route protection, anti-sabotage operations and contingency response plans. Officers were directed to remain in a high state of operational preparedness and ensure meticulous implementation of all security arrangements. Special focus was laid on securing pilgrimage routes, transit camps, base camps and other critical locations associated with the annual Yatra. The DGP reviewed deployment plans and stressed round-the-clock surveillance, rapid response capabilities and coordinated field operations to safeguard the movement of devotees. Officials said the review is part of the administration's comprehensive strategy to establish a robust multi-layered security architecture for SANJY-2026 through intelligence-driven operations, enhanced surveillance and strategic deployment of security personnel across the pilgrimage axis. Reaffirming the commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to the safe and successful conduct of the pilgrimage, DGP Nalin Prabhat directed all officers to remain alert, proactive and fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. He underscored that the safety and security of pilgrims remain the highest priority and called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Amarnath Yatra.
