Indian Army’s Young Archers Shine at National Championship in Guntur

In a remarkable display of discipline, determination and sporting excellence, two young archers from the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School (MIC&S), Ahilyanagar, brought laurels to the Indian Army and Maharashtra at the NTPC Open National Archery Championships held in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, on 27 March 2026.
Jivisha Agarwal, daughter of serving officer Colonel Ashish Agarwal, delivered an exceptional performance by clinching the gold medal and securing first position in the Elimination Event of the Indian Round Girls Under-13 category. Showcasing remarkable composure and precision, she stood out in a highly competitive field. In the individual ranking round, where four archers from Maharashtra featured among the top ten, Jivisha narrowly missed another podium finish by just one point.
Nidhi Mahto also put up an impressive performance, securing ninth position in the overall national rankings, as both young archers competed with distinction and upheld the spirit of excellence.
The achievement underscores the Indian Army’s continued commitment to nurturing young talent through structured training, mentorship and a robust sporting ecosystem. The success of these archers highlights the role of MIC&S, Ahilyanagar, in identifying and grooming promising talent for national-level competitions.
Special credit goes to Coach Havildar Rakesh Ninama, whose dedicated training and mentorship played a crucial role in guiding the young athletes to national success. The accomplishment reflects the Indian Army’s broader role in nation-building by fostering discipline, confidence and excellence among the youth.
