Srinagar Police Demolish Rs 2 Crore Illegal Property of Drug Peddler in Major Anti-Narcotics Action
SRINAGAR, June 4: In a significant action under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Revenue Department, demolished an illegally constructed three-storeyed residential structure worth approximately Rs 2 crore allegedly belonging to a notorious drug peddler in the Rainawari area of Srinagar.
According to police, the demolished structure belonged to Sheikh Tasaduq, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Mumkhan Mohalla, Rainawari. The accused is allegedly involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said that a detailed inquiry and verification of the accused’s assets established that the three-storeyed concrete structure had been constructed on encroached State land and was allegedly financed through proceeds generated from illicit narcotics trafficking.
Officials further stated that the action also resulted in the recovery of valuable government land worth crores of rupees from illegal occupation. Investigations reportedly revealed that the property constituted illegally acquired assets and represented financial gains derived from unlawful drug-related activities, apart from being an unauthorized encroachment on State land.
Following the completion of all required legal procedures and in accordance with due process of law, the structure was demolished in the presence of Revenue Department officials.
Srinagar Police said the action reflects its continued resolve to dismantle the financial networks supporting narcotics trafficking and ensure that proceeds of crime are not converted into unlawful assets.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating the drug menace, the police urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in efforts to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
