Srinagar, Jan 20: In a significant action against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a police sub-inspector after catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe during a trap operation in Mendhar area of Poonch district.
Official sources said the arrest followed a complaint alleging demand of illegal gratification by the accused officer. After discreet verification of the allegations, the ACB laid a trap and apprehended the sub-inspector at the spot while he was accepting the bribe.
Following the operation, a formal case was registered under the relevant provisions of law, and the accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
An ACB official said the action is part of the bureau’s sustained campaign against corruption in public offices. The investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the case and to ascertain whether any other officials were involved.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has once again urged the public to come forward with information on corrupt practices, assuring that complaints will be acted upon strictly and confidentially.
