ACB Traps and Arrests Patwari in Kathua for accepting bribe


Jammu, June 30, ANB,  — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested Liaquat Ali, Patwari of Halqa Thuthay Chak, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua, for demanding and accepting a bribe of  Rs 30,000. The arrest was made following a complaint filed with the ACB, alleging that the Patwari had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 for attesting a mutation to enter the complainant’s wife's name in the revenue records. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹70,000, to be paid in two installments. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted a discreet verification of the allegations. The demand for the bribe was found to be genuine, following which FIR No. 13/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at ACB Police Station Jammu. A trap team, led by a Gazetted Officer and comprising independent witnesses, was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting ₹30,000 as the first installment of the bribe. The amount was recovered from his possession on the spot. According to news service, Associated news bureau, ANB, the accused was arrested in accordance with legal procedures. A search operation was also launched at his residence in Kishanpur, Dungara, Billawar, District Kathua, in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.
