Anantnag Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Recover Charas During Routine Checking
Anantnag, September 14, 2026: Anantnag Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 4.30 grams of charas from his possession during a routine checking operation near Bypass Library in Anantnag.
Police said a team from Police Station Anantnag intercepted a motorcyclist during the checking and identified him as Jahangir Yaqoob, son of Mohd. Yaqoob Bhat, a resident of Hanji Dantar, Anantnag.
During a search, police recovered 4.30 grams of charas from his possession, following which he was taken into custody.
A case, FIR No. 306/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and further investigation is underway.
Anantnag Police said it would continue efforts to curb drug trafficking and strengthen measures aimed at preventing substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
