The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a scathing attack on the ruling National Conference (NC), alleging deep internal discord within the party and accusing the Omar Abdullah-led government of failing to deliver on governance and welfare commitments in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the News Service Associated News Bureau ANB correspondent,
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, party spokespersons Dr Tahir Choudhary and Zorawar Singh Jamwal, along with Media Incharge Dr Pardeep Mahotra, claimed that the NC is witnessing unprecedented internal unrest, with a large section of its leadership dissatisfied with the Chief Minister’s style of functioning and policy decisions.
Dr Choudhary alleged that the National Conference has effectively become a family-centric political outfit, with power and decision-making confined to a select few within the Abdullah family. He said senior leaders and grassroots workers who strengthened the party over decades have been sidelined and see little future for themselves.
Claiming that nearly 80 per cent of NC leaders are unhappy with Omar Abdullah’s leadership, Dr Choudhary said the internal power struggle has adversely impacted governance, leading to neglect of issues concerning youth, women, the poor and marginalised sections. He alleged that promises made in the party’s manifesto remain unfulfilled, while infighting within the ruling party has taken precedence over public welfare.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal said open criticism of the Chief Minister’s policies by NC MPs and senior leaders reflects a lack of confidence within the ruling party itself. He added that when elected representatives publicly express dissatisfaction, it raises serious questions about the credibility and direction of the government.
Jamwal alleged that the government’s policies are disconnected from ground realities and are proving to be anti-poor. He reiterated that the BJP, despite being in opposition, would support any initiative genuinely aimed at the welfare of people across Jammu, Kashmir and hilly regions.
He further said the government has failed to address key issues related to employment, development and social welfare, allowing confusion and unrest to grow within its own ranks. “A government that cannot maintain unity within its party cannot ensure stability and progress,” he remarked.
Responding to queries on recent protests and student-related issues, BJP leaders said matters concerning education and medical admissions should not be politicised. They urged the National Conference leadership to clarify its internal position and refocus on governance, warning that continued infighting and lack of transparency could further erode public trust and aggravate the fragile political and administrative situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
