BJP J&K Honours Tarun Chugh, Ashok Koul for Years of Organisational Service
Jammu, October 3: BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh on Saturday said that organisational responsibilities may change with time, but the core duties, values and commitment of a dedicated party worker remain unchanged.
Santhosh was addressing a ‘Samman Samaroh’ organised at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, to honour Tarun Chugh for his nearly six-year tenure as J&K BJP Prabhari and Ashok Koul for his 14 years of service as J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation).
Chugh has now been assigned responsibilities as National Office Prabhari, Rajya Sabha MP and Gujarat Prabhari, while Koul has returned to the core organisational work of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Santhosh said the organisation’s objective is larger than any individual and stressed that every worker should continue to develop his capabilities while contributing to strengthening the party.
“Responsibilities may change, but the basic duties don’t,” he said, while highlighting the importance of discipline, commitment and continuous self-development among party workers.
The programme was chaired by J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma and attended by senior party leaders, including Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Er Ghulam Ali Khatana, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, former BJP presidents Ashok Khajuria and Ravinder Raina, and senior party functionaries.
J&K BJP Seh-Prabhari and MLA Reena Kashyap, RSS Seh-Sanghchalak Dr Vikrant Sharma, and General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul also addressed the gathering.
Congratulating Chugh and Koul, Santhosh said organisational responsibilities provide individuals with opportunities to develop experience, leadership abilities and the capacity to guide others. Referring to Koul’s long association with the RSS as a senior Pracharak and his extensive organisational service in J&K BJP, he said his return to the parent organisation reflected the larger organisational purpose.
He also urged party workers not to become attached to individuals or positions and instead remain focused on strengthening the organisation and developing themselves.
Sat Sharma appreciated the contribution of Chugh and Koul, saying their sustained efforts had strengthened the BJP’s organisational network across Jammu and Kashmir. He recalled Koul’s accessibility to party workers and said activists could approach him with political, social and personal concerns.
He also highlighted Chugh’s extensive tours across J&K, including remote areas, to strengthen the party’s grassroots network.
Chugh, in his address, recalled the challenges faced by BJP workers in Jammu and Kashmir and acknowledged the sacrifices made by party activists while working for what he described as nationalist and social causes. He said the BJP’s organisational base had expanded across the region and credited Koul with playing an important role in strengthening the party in Jammu and expanding its presence in constituencies across Kashmir.
Chugh called for continued organisational efforts, saying that despite achievements, considerable work remained to be done.
Koul recalled his association with the RSS since joining the organisation in 1974 and his subsequent service in various capacities as a Pracharak. Recalling the challenges he faced during his organisational journey, including a serious accident, he advised party workers to remain committed to continuous learning and to cultivate patience, courage, endurance and steadfastness.
He emphasised that workers should focus not only on organisational objectives but also on their own personal development and capacity-building.
Dr Vikrant Sharma spoke about the organisational evolution of the BJP and RSS, stressing that while responsibilities and assignments may change, core values remain constant. He urged party workers to draw inspiration from Koul’s organisational commitment and continue working towards self-development.
Reena Kashyap expressed gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting her with the responsibility of J&K Seh-Prabhari and assured the gathering of her commitment to discharging the assignment effectively. She also highlighted the BJP’s emphasis on providing women equal opportunities in organisational and public life.
Dr Jitendra Singh recalled his association with Koul and spoke about the challenges and achievements witnessed during his long organisational tenure. He referred to the BJP’s electoral performances in Lok Sabha, Assembly, DDC, BDC, ULB and Panchayat elections.
Sunil Sharma also recalled Koul’s role in grooming party workers and described his organisational journey as an example of patience, courage, endurance and steadfastness.
Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Er Ghulam Ali Khatana, former BJP president Dr Nirmal Singh, former president Ravinder Raina, MLA Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, BJP vice-presidents Priya Sethi and Rakesh Mahajan, among others, shared their memories of their association with Koul and acknowledged his long organisational service.
