CBI Traps Two SMC Employees in Alleged Bribery Case, Conducts Search at Senior Engineer's Residence
Srinagar, June 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday trapped two employees of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 and subsequently carried out searches at the residence of a senior SMC engineer in Srinagar as part of its anti-corruption investigation.
According to sources, the CBI apprehended Sajad Hussain Bhat, In-Charge Dealing Assistant, and Javid Ahmad Ganie, a Consolidated Worker, both posted in the office of the Executive Engineer, Left River Works Division (LRWD) of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, allegedly red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
Following the trap, the investigating agency conducted searches at the residence of Er. Sajad Kawoosa near Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga in the Bhagat Barzulla area of Srinagar.
Sources alleged that the bribe amount was purportedly intended to be passed on to the officer. However, the CBI has not officially confirmed this allegation.
Er. Sajad Kawoosa is currently serving as Executive Engineer and is also holding the additional charge of Superintending Engineer in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The investigation into the alleged bribery case is underway, and the CBI is expected to carry forward further legal proceedings in accordance with the findings of the probe. ANB
