Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo Lays Foundation Stone for Rs 2.84-Crore Restoration of Historic Dharamshala in Kulgam

KULGAM, Aug 2: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the revival and restoration of the historic Dharamshala at Mata Kantiyani Bhagwati Asthapan in Kakran, Kulgam, marking a significant step towards preserving the region’s religious and cultural heritage. The restoration project, to be executed by the PWD (R&B) Division, D.H. Pora, has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹2.84 crore. The initiative aims to conserve the Dharamshala’s religious, cultural and historical significance while upgrading facilities for pilgrims and visitors. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary underscored the importance of safeguarding heritage sites and strengthening public infrastructure. He said the project would enhance the experience of devotees, promote religious tourism and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Dulloo directed the executing agencies to ensure the timely completion of the project while maintaining the highest standards of quality and heritage conservation. During his visit, the Chief Secretary also interacted with members of the Kashmiri Pandit community. Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, briefed the Chief Secretary on the proposed restoration works and outlined the district administration’s ongoing initiatives to preserve heritage assets and improve civic infrastructure across the district. Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, highlighted the historical and cultural importance of the Dharamshala and stressed the need to preserve such heritage structures for future generations. The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmad Khan, Assistant Commissioner Development, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Division D.H. Pora, senior district officers, officials of the PWD, representatives of the Kashmiri Pandit community and other concerned officials.
