Congress Acting as a Tool of Forces Hostile to India, Alleges BJP MP Gulam Ali Khatana
NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (Nominated), Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led INDI Alliance, accusing it of politicising issues of national importance and attempting to create political instability and undermine the country's social harmony.
Khatana alleged that instead of discharging its responsibilities as a constructive opposition, the Congress and its alliance partners were indulging in divisive politics, spreading misinformation and obstructing initiatives related to national security, governance and democratic institutions.
He particularly criticised the opposition's stance on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), alleging that these issues were being deliberately politicised for narrow electoral gains.
The BJP MP maintained that electoral reforms and accurate voter lists were essential for strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring free and fair elections. He said political parties should engage in meaningful debate on such matters rather than create unnecessary apprehensions among the public.
Referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act, Khatana said the legislation was aimed at providing relief and a pathway to Indian citizenship to persecuted minority communities from neighbouring countries. He accused the Congress of misrepresenting the provisions of the Act and misleading people through politically motivated narratives.
“The Congress party has lost its political direction and is increasingly behaving like a tool in the hands of forces inimical to India's interests. Its repeated attempts to create unrest, question every national initiative and exploit sensitive issues for political mileage raise serious questions about whose interests it is actually serving,” Khatana said.
He further alleged that opposition to the government had become the principal political agenda of the INDI Alliance, irrespective of its implications for national unity, social harmony and the credibility of democratic institutions.
Emphasising that dissent and criticism were integral to democracy, Khatana said every political party had the constitutional right to question the government and register its opposition. However, he maintained that such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the constitutional framework.
The BJP leader also urged people, particularly the youth, to remain cautious against misinformation, political propaganda and attempts to create divisions on religious and regional lines. He called upon citizens to assess political parties on the basis of their contribution to nation-building rather than provocative statements and controversies.
Reiterating his commitment to a strong, prosperous and united India, Khatana said national sovereignty, security and development must remain above partisan considerations.
He expressed confidence that India would continue its journey towards progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with emphasis on development, good governance, national security and inclusive growth. ANB
