DC Srinagar, Director SKIMS review infrastructure upgradation, patient-friendly initiatives at SKIMS Soura


Srinagar, January 01:
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, along with Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Ahangar, on Wednesday conducted an on-the-spot review of infrastructure upgradation and developmental requirements of the institute to further strengthen healthcare facilities at the Valley’s premier tertiary care hospital.
Additional Director SKIMS Zahoor Ahmad Mir; Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz; Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar; Superintending Engineer R&B; Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr. Farooq Jan; Executive Engineer R&B; Dy SP Traffic; Tehsildar Eidgah, besides other senior officers of the district administration and SKIMS, were present during the visit.
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner and Director SKIMS held detailed deliberations on the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, traffic decongestion measures outside the institute, demarcation of SKIMS land, improvement of road connectivity through widening, and identification of land for the proposed new OPD block.
The officers reviewed several on-ground measures aimed at making the SKIMS campus more patient-friendly, with special emphasis on expanding entry and exit points at the main gate to facilitate smooth movement of patients, attendants and emergency vehicles.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to work out practical and feasible solutions to the issues discussed and instructed them to conduct follow-up site visits in the coming weeks. He assured the SKIMS administration of full support from the district administration to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve patient care and service delivery, with the objective of developing SKIMS into a more patient-centric campus.
The officers also inspected the proposed site for construction of the new OPD block and other facilities aimed at enhancing patient convenience and healthcare services. Emphasising coordinated efforts, the DC stressed the need for close collaboration among all line departments to ensure timely execution of the proposed works.
Earlier, during a meeting at SKIMS Soura, the Director SKIMS highlighted key priority areas requiring immediate attention to improve operational efficiency and patient convenience.
