DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Security Grid, Directs Heightened Vigilance for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026
Kathua, July 6: Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, IPS, on Monday reviewed the security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026 during a visit to the Base Camp at Lakhanpur and key stretches of the National Highway in Kathua district.
The DGP inspected the multi-layered security grid, access control mechanisms, Joint Police Control Room (JPCR), traffic management system, and convoy movement to assess the preparedness of security agencies for the annual pilgrimage.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, IPS, briefed the DGP on the security architecture, traffic regulation plan, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims.
During the review, the DGP directed all security agencies to maintain the highest level of operational readiness and ensure seamless coordination among the police, civil administration, and other stakeholders. He stressed the need for intensified area domination and night domination exercises, particularly along the National Highway, major road corridors, and designated Yatra routes.
He also instructed field formations to strengthen surveillance and maintain strict vigil over suspicious activities across Kathua district to prevent any attempt to disrupt peace and the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Emphasising the importance of robust verification procedures, the DGP directed officers to strictly verify the identity credentials of pilgrims and ensure effective utilisation of the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered yatris. He further instructed that issues concerning unregistered pilgrims be handled proactively and sensitively in coordination with the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board while adhering to prescribed protocols.
Expressing confidence in the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, the DGP said sustained vigilance, operational synergy, and effective security measures would ensure the peaceful, secure, and successful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. ANB
