Srinagar, July 12: ANB: In a continued push to strengthen public health safeguards, the Food Safety team of Srinagar conducted a comprehensive inspection drive today across the areas of Habkadal, Babdamb, and Munawarabad, with a special focus on street food vendors. The drive is part of an ongoing campaign aimed at enforcing food safety regulations and raising awareness at the grassroots level.
Officials assessed food quality, hygiene standards, and storage conditions during the inspections. Vendors were sensitized on essential food safety practices, including:
Hand Hygiene: Stress was laid on regular handwashing—especially before handling food and after waste contact.
Safe Storage: Guidance was provided on proper food storage temperatures and preventing cross-contamination.
Cleanliness & Contamination Control: Emphasis was placed on using clean utensils, covering food properly, using potable water, and maintaining overall stall hygiene.
A senior official told Associated News Bureau (ANB) that the initiative, which combines enforcement with education, is being conducted under the directives of Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, and Smita Sethi, Commissioner of Food Safety.
Authorities confirmed that similar inspections will continue in the coming weeks and cautioned that strict action will be taken against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. ANB
