Government Issues Advisory to Private TV Channels on Sensitive Content

New Delhi, Nov 18, 2025:
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory to all private satellite TV channels, cautioning them against broadcasting sensitive content related to recent incidents, including the Red Fort blast.

The ministry noted that some channels have aired content involving alleged individuals linked to the blast, including material that appears to justify acts of violence or share information on making explosive devices. According to the advisory, such broadcasts may unintentionally encourage violence, disrupt public order, and threaten national security.

TV channels have been instructed to exercise the highest level of discretion and sensitivity while reporting on such matters. The ministry reminded broadcasters to strictly adhere to the Programme and Advertising Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. Violations may include:
•Broadcasting obscene, defamatory, false, or suggestive content;
•Telecasting material that could incite violence, promote anti-national attitudes, or disrupt law and order;
•Airing content that affects the integrity of the nation.

Channels have also been specifically advised to avoid visuals that could aid, abet, or promote unlawful activities.

The advisory was issued with the approval of the competent authority in the Ministry and signed by Arpitha S, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India.

Copies of the advisory have been forwarded to regulatory bodies of TV channels registered under the Cable Television (Amendment) Rules 2021, the Association of Bodies of Electronic Media, and the Broadcast Seva Portal.
