J&K Govt Accelerates Tourism Infrastructure Development Across Key Destinations
Srinagar, September 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has outlined a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure and promoting sustainable tourism development across the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Tourism portfolio, shared the details while replying to questions in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Patnitop has been proposed for consideration under the Government of India’s Globally Competitive Tourism Destination Scheme. Meanwhile, the process for revising the Master Plan of the Patnitop Development Authority has also been initiated.
At the pilgrimage centres of Purmandal and Utterbehni, tourism infrastructure has been upgraded under the Pilgrimage Circuit Plan. In addition, a proposal amounting to ₹45.88 crore has been formulated under the PRASHAD Scheme for riverfront development, drinking water facilities, construction of steel bridges and establishment of sewage treatment plants.
In Kupwara district, planned tourism infrastructure development is being undertaken at key destinations, including Bungus, Sadhna Pass, Keran and Lolab.
The Government has also emphasised that tourism development in eco-fragile areas, particularly Bungus, will be pursued with due regard to environmental protection and the preservation of local heritage.
The initiatives are aimed at improving tourism facilities and connectivity while promoting sustainable and responsible development across Jammu and Kashmir.
