Srinagar, January 20, 2026:ANB Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the redeveloped Amira Kadal bridge, a key heritage and pedestrian infrastructure project aimed at improving urban mobility while preserving Srinagar’s historic character.
Executed at a cost of ₹7.70 crore under Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), the project was launched in December 2023 with a focus on heritage conservation, structural safety and quality standards. The wooden pedestrian bridge has been dedicated to the people of Srinagar as part of broader efforts to enhance quality of life through inclusive and modern urban design.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the prime objective of such initiatives is to elevate the quality of life by integrating modern technology with cultural preservation. He stressed that infrastructure development should protect the soul of cities by conserving historic bridges, traditional markets, heritage lanes, public squares and green spaces, while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities. According to the News Service Associated News Bureau ANB Correspondent,The Lieutenant Governor underlined that renovation and upgradation of urban infrastructure must serve as a link between heritage and contemporary needs. He noted that this approach is reflected in multiple redevelopment projects across Jammu and Kashmir, including the Jhelum Riverfront, Lal Chowk and MA Road redevelopment, Polo View High Street, heritage markets of Shehr-e-Khaas, lakefront walkways, river ghats, and urban renewal initiatives in both Srinagar and Jammu.
Highlighting the broader vision of smart cities, Shri Manoj Sinha said that true urban transformation goes beyond physical infrastructure to promote a vibrant, efficient and inclusive way of living. He added that revitalising cities through heritage preservation not only honours cultural roots but also strengthens local economies and builds a resilient future for the younger generation.
During interactions with local shopkeepers and traders, the Lieutenant Governor observed that the redeveloped pedestrian bridge is expected to improve accessibility, boost commercial activity and enhance the overall experience for residents and tourists alike.
