LG Manoj Sinha Felicitates 32 KWO Fellows, Calls Women’s Empowerment the Foundation of a Developed J&K

Srinagar, July 6: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday felicitated 32 recipients of the Kashmir Women’s Organization (KWO) Fellowship at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar, describing them as symbols of Jammu and Kashmir’s transformation towards a future founded on self-confidence, equal opportunities and dignity for all. Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the fellowship recipients had challenged long-standing stereotypes and demonstrated that women possess the potential to lead change across every sphere of society. He said their achievements would inspire future generations and strengthen the foundation for a progressive and inclusive Jammu and Kashmir. The Lieutenant Governor lauded the efforts of Dr. Fida Firdous and the members of the Kashmir Women’s Organization for creating a platform that enables women to nurture their talent, ideas and leadership while contributing meaningfully to society. He observed that within a short period, the organization had emerged as a credible platform promoting hope, trust and positive social transformation through collaborative efforts. Paying tribute to eminent women personalities from Jammu and Kashmir, including Rani Didda, Kota Rani, Lal Ded, Habba Khatoon and Mata Rupa Bhawani, the Lieutenant Governor said the region has a rich legacy of women who have played a defining role in shaping its social and cultural heritage. Reiterating the government's commitment to gender equality, the Lieutenant Governor said women’s empowerment remains central to the vision of a developed Jammu and Kashmir. He envisioned a future where women lead in education, industry, governance, entrepreneurship, social organisations, arts and literature, while every young girl grows up believing in the value of her dreams, the strength of her voice and the limitless opportunities before her. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiatives aimed at ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women in Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting the importance of equal participation of women in all walks of life, the Lieutenant Governor said sustainable development can only be achieved by creating an environment that respects, empowers and supports women. Expressing concern over the growing challenge of substance abuse among women, he urged the fellowship recipients to undertake a region-specific study to identify its root causes, saying such research would help strengthen rehabilitation mechanisms and provide meaningful support to affected women. The Lieutenant Governor also appreciated the mentors associated with the fellowship programme for guiding the participants throughout their journey and expressed confidence that the initiative would continue to inspire and empower women across Jammu and Kashmir. On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor released the book “Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipal Council in India” authored by Dr. Nazrul Islam. Among those present were Dr. Fida Firdous, President, Kashmir Writers Association; Dr. Darakshan Hassan Bhat, President, Kashmir Women’s Organization; members of the Kashmir Writers Association and Kashmir Women’s Organization, besides senior government officials.
