Omar Abdullah Moves Resolution Seeking Immediate Restoration of Full Statehood to J&K

Srinagar, September 25: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday moved a resolution in the Legislative Assembly seeking the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Supplementary List of Business issued by the J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the resolution refers to resolutions passed by the House on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024, and calls upon the Government of India to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. It further proposes that the resolution be forwarded to the Union Government. The resolution was moved after Question Hour amid noisy scenes in the House. The reference to the June 2000 resolution on autonomy drew strong objections from BJP members, who protested against its inclusion and disrupted proceedings. While moving the resolution, Omar Abdullah said that the restoration of statehood had been linked to a three-step process involving delimitation, elections and restoration of statehood. He noted that delimitation and elections had taken place and urged the House to deliberate on the pending issue of statehood. The resolution has been listed for consideration during the ongoing autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. ANB
