Satish Sharma Reviews Muharram Arrangements Across Srinagar, Orders Expedited Completion of Civic Works

Srinagar, June 16: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma on Tuesday conducted an extensive inspection tour of several areas in Srinagar city to review preparations for the forthcoming Muharram observances and assess the readiness of essential public services. Accompanied by MLA Zadaibal Tanvir Sadiq, senior district administration officials and officers from various line departments, the Minister visited several localities, including Mir Bahari, Meena Bazar, Moti Mohalla, Batt Mohalla, Gucchi Mohalla, Kathidarwaza, Madin Sahib, Tibetan Colony, Butt Colony and Mandibal. During the tour, the Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing developmental and maintenance works and assessed arrangements related to street lighting, sanitation, drainage, drinking water supply, road connectivity and other civic amenities. He directed the concerned departments to ensure the timely completion of all essential works and maintain close coordination to facilitate smooth Muharram observances. The Minister also reviewed the preparedness of the Power Development Department (PDD) and the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), stressing the need for uninterrupted electricity and water supply during the religious occasion. He instructed officials to address all deficiencies on priority and ensure continuous monitoring of essential services. At various locations, Sharma interacted with local residents, community representatives and members of Muharram committees to gather feedback on public requirements and ongoing preparations. He assured them that all genuine concerns raised during the visit would be addressed expeditiously. The Minister also visited the historic Imambara at Madin Sahib, where he inspected arrangements for devotees and mourners. He directed the concerned agencies to ensure adequate sanitation, proper lighting, safe drinking water facilities and smooth movement of people around the religious site. MLA Zadaibal Tanvir Sadiq highlighted several local issues and urged departments to expedite pending works to ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed well before the commencement of Muharram. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram. He emphasized that providing adequate civic amenities and uninterrupted public services during important religious events remains a priority for the administration. He called upon all departments to work in close coordination and complete the required arrangements within the stipulated timeframe to ensure convenience for the public and create a conducive environment for the observances. Officials accompanying the Minister assured him that all directions issued during the inspection would be implemented promptly and that identified issues would be resolved on priority. The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to responsive governance and public welfare, stating that all necessary measures would be taken to facilitate religious and cultural events across Jammu and Kashmir in a smooth, peaceful and dignified manner.
