Satish Sharma Urges Youth to Lead the Way Towards a Healthy and Drug-Free Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu, May 24: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma on Sunday called upon the youth to play a leading role in building a strong, healthy and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through discipline, education and constructive engagement. The Minister was addressing students, teachers, parents and members of the school community during the Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural Programme at JNV Jammu-II, Nardi-Bala. Highlighting the importance of educational institutions in shaping responsible citizens, Satish Sharma said schools and colleges are not merely centres of academic learning but institutions that nurture character, leadership and social responsibility among young minds. Congratulating students for their achievements, the Minister said true success goes beyond awards and recognition and is rooted in values such as hard work, perseverance, discipline and integrity. Reflecting on his personal journey, Satish Sharma spoke about the importance of dedication, sacrifice and resilience, stating that lasting success is built through consistent effort and commitment. Addressing concerns related to the health and lifestyle of the younger generation, the Minister urged students to adopt healthy food habits and avoid unhealthy and processed food choices. “A strong nation is built on healthy citizens. The choices young people make today regarding health and lifestyle will determine the future strength of our society,” he said. The Minister also appreciated the role of Scouts, Guides and youth development initiatives in instilling discipline, teamwork and leadership qualities among students, saying such platforms help prepare youth for future responsibilities. Expressing concern over the growing menace of substance abuse, Satish Sharma stressed the importance of sports and constructive youth engagement as effective measures to combat drug addiction and other social evils. “Sports grounds, classrooms and creative spaces must become centres of aspiration for our youth. A child engaged in sports learns resilience, determination and the value of hard work,” he remarked. He reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for youth participation in sports and other constructive activities across Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister also congratulated award-winning students and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence while inspiring others through their dedication and achievements. Expressing confidence in the younger generation, Satish Sharma said the future of Jammu and Kashmir rests in the hands of youth equipped with knowledge, strong values and a spirit of service towards society and the nation. The event featured colourful cultural performances and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, parents, teachers and members of the school administration.
