Srinagar DC Inducts Three New Water Tankers to Strengthen Drinking Water Supply , Vehicles Worth Rs 72 Lakh to Improve Water Availability in Tail-End Areas During Peak Demand Season

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 14: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, today handed over three newly procured water tankers to the Water Works Division, Srinagar, to strengthen public water supply and improve drinking water availability, particularly in tail-end areas during the peak demand season. The vehicles were formally inducted into the fleet of the Jal Shakti Department during a flag-off ceremony held at the office of the Executive Engineer, Water Works Division, Srinagar. Additional Deputy Commissioners Imtiyaz Ul Aziz Mir and Aadil Fareed, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, IAS probationer Sai Kiran, Superintending Engineer, Hydraulics, Er. Ambreen Anjum, Executive Engineer, Water Works Division, Aijaz Rafiq, and other officers and officials were present on the occasion. Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner said the three tankers had been procured at a cost of ₹72 lakh through the convergence of various district-level schemes and funds in coordination with the Jal Shakti Department. The fleet comprises one tanker with a capacity of 6,000 litres and two tankers with a capacity of 5,000 litres each. Labroo said the addition of these vehicles would enhance the district administration's capacity to address drinking water shortages in tail-end areas, particularly during periods of peak demand. The tankers would also facilitate the timely supply of water to areas facing shortages, depending on local requirements. Emphasising the need for effective deployment, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to ensure optimal utilisation of the newly inducted vehicles and prioritise the supply of safe and adequate drinking water to consumers, especially in areas where regular water supply remains constrained. He observed that even a single additional water tanker could make a significant difference in meeting public demand during the peak season. The Deputy Commissioner expressed confidence that the new vehicles would help bridge gaps in water supply services, improve service delivery and strengthen the district's response to drinking water requirements across Srinagar.
