BJP Stages Protest in J&K Assembly Over Statehood Resolution

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators on Tuesday staged a protest in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly against the discussion on the resolution seeking restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP members raised objections to references in the resolution to the 2000 autonomy resolution and the 2024 resolution concerning special status. The protest came a day after BJP legislators had staged a walkout from the House over the Speaker’s decision to allow discussion on the statehood resolution. During Tuesday’s proceedings, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma reiterated the BJP’s objections and raised concerns over the manner in which the proceedings were being conducted. The statehood resolution, moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was passed by the Assembly on Monday amid protests and objections from BJP legislators. The issue continued to trigger exchanges between the ruling side and the Opposition during the Assembly proceedings. ANB
