Handwara Police Bust Terror Module, Ex-Terrorist Arrested With Pistol and Ammunition
HANDWARA, SEPTEMBER 9: Handwara Police, in a joint operation with 21 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion CRPF, have apprehended an alleged former terrorist accused of operating in a hybrid mode as part of a module linked to the banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen in the Handwara–Kupwara area.
Police said the operation was launched on the basis of specific and reliable information regarding the activities of the accused. The joint security team conducted the operation at an identified location in Handwara town and apprehended the suspect following a security drill.
The accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat, a resident of Kruhmura, Handwara.
According to police, a Chinese-made pistol, two magazines and 16 rounds of pistol ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Police further said that the accused is a former terrorist who had previously been arrested in connection with two cases.
A case under FIR No. 232 has been registered at Police Station Handwara under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the alleged module's network, identify other associates and establish the full extent of its activities. ANB
