India is mother of democracy, PM Modi


New Delhi, July 3, ANB, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for Trinidad & Tobago on the second leg of his five-nation tour after concluding his successful visit to Ghana. Before his departure, Mr Modi addressed the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana in the capital, Accra, today. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the relationship between India and Ghana knows no bounds, noting the friendship between the two nations was sweeter than Ghana’s famous “Sugar Loaf Pineapple”. According to news service, associated news bureau, Anb, Speaking on democracy, Prime Minister Modi described India as the mother of democracy, stressing the importance of openness and dialogue in a democratic setup. He highlighted India’s vast diversity as a strength of its democratic fabric. For India, democracy is not just a system; it is a part of our fundamental values. He asserted that twenty different parties are governing different states, 22 official languages, and thousands of dialects. He said, This is also the reason that people who have come to India have always been welcomed with open hearts. He hailed the West African nation for its enduring commitment to democracy, dignity, and resilience, calling it a “beacon of inspiration” for the African continent. During his visit, PM Modi was also conferred with “The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana the country’s highest civilian honour, by President John Mahama. Speaking in Ghana’s Parliament, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the African nation on behalf of 1.4 billion India and noted the emotional connection to the award. He thanked Ghana’s President for the honour and called it a matter of immense pride. He said he dedicated the award to the youth of both countries. Mr Modi also dedicated the prestigious award to the enduring friendship and shared values between the two countries. ANB
