J&K Government Notifies Electric Vehicle Policy-2026 to Promote Clean and Affordable Mobility

Srinagar, September 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the J&K Electric Vehicle Policy-2026 following its approval by the Council of Ministers, paving the way for a six-year roadmap aimed at promoting clean, affordable and sustainable electric mobility across the Union Territory. The policy seeks to establish a weather-resilient electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem across all 20 districts of J&K, with a focus on demand incentives, cold-climate charging infrastructure, public-private partnerships, youth skill development and employment generation. As part of measures to encourage EV adoption, the policy provides for interest subventions, top-up incentives for early adopters, scrappage incentives and tax exemptions. It also lays emphasis on developing 24x7 charging hubs, integrating charging infrastructure with the power grid and undertaking the phased electrification of vehicle fleets. The policy is aimed at strengthening the supporting infrastructure required for wider adoption of electric vehicles while creating opportunities for investment, entrepreneurship and employment in the emerging clean-mobility sector. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Transport Minister Satish Sharma and the Transport Department on the notification of the policy, describing it as a significant step towards cleaner transport and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
