Kashmiri Feature Film ‘The Sledge’ Selected for International Competition in Germany , World Premiere to be held at 31st SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival in October
Srinagar, September 19: ANB Kashmiri-language feature film ‘The Sledge’, written and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Raja Shabir Mohammad Khan, has been officially selected for the International Competition of the 31st SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences, scheduled to be held in Chemnitz, Germany, from October 2 to 10, 2026.
The film will have its World Premiere at the prestigious international festival, marking a significant milestone for Kashmiri cinema and the young actors associated with the project.
Set against the snow-covered landscape of Kashmir, the 75-minute film revolves around three children who accidentally break their father’s sledge. Fearing punishment, they decide to earn money to repair it by selling kahwa to tourists in Gulmarg.
Their plan takes an unexpected turn when they find a tourist’s bag containing money and chocolates. The discovery places the children before a difficult choice—whether to use the money to resolve their problem or return it to its rightful owner.
Through the children’s predicament, the film explores themes of honesty, temptation, responsibility and moral choice.
The film features Haziq Mohammad Khan, Eashel Khan and Raima Khan in the lead roles. Raja Shabir Mohammad Khan has produced and directed the film, while Ramayasa Khan is the Executive Producer.
Speaking about the selection, Khan said the film’s World Premiere in the International Competition at SCHLiNGEL was an honour. He said the story was deeply rooted in Kashmir, its landscape and people, while the emotions and choices faced by the children had universal relevance.
The SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival is dedicated to films for children and young audiences and brings together productions from different parts of the world. The selection of The Sledge places a Kashmiri-language children’s feature from Kashmir in an international competitive festival programme.
The film will be screened in Kashmiri with English subtitles. Its international festival debut will also provide the young cast an opportunity to represent their film and Kashmir before an international audience.
