LOP Sunil Sharma Holds Public Outreach Meetings in Srinagar, Hears Delegations’ Concerns
Srinagar, September 19: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Friday held a series of interactions with representatives of various sections of society in Srinagar as part of the BJP’s ongoing public outreach programme across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharma met delegations representing trade unions, business and trading communities, transporters, civil society, intellectuals, professionals, medical associations, students and other groups. The representatives apprised him of issues concerning their respective sectors and put forth their grievances, suggestions and demands.
J&K BJP Secretary Arif Raja, Co-Convenor All Cells Bilal Parray, senior leader Dr Ali Mohd Mir, and District Presidents Advocate Sheikh Salman and Ghulam Hasan were also present during the interactions.
Sharma assured the delegations that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities and, wherever required, raised during the forthcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
“People are raising basic and genuine issues—electricity poles, shortage of staff in schools, doctors in hospitals, damaged roads and potholes, employment-related concerns and civic amenities. These are issues that require governance and administrative action,” Sharma said.
He also criticised the National Conference-led government over what he described as its repeated reference to “lack of powers” while responding to public concerns. Sharma said such responses had contributed to confusion and frustration among sections of the public.
“People want their day-to-day problems to be addressed. Electricity infrastructure, school staff, doctors in hospitals and roads do not wait for political circumstances,” he said.
Sharma also raised issues concerning workers and employees associated with various government schemes and departments, including Daily Wagers, Gram Rozgar Sahayaks (GRS), Technical Assistants, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and National Health Mission (NHM) employees. He called for attention to their concerns relating to job security, remuneration and regularisation.
The Leader of Opposition further referred to public complaints regarding alleged corruption, delays in Panchayat elections, power tariffs and employment-related concerns among youth.
“Thousands of young people are looking for opportunities and a secure future. The government must address their concerns instead of allowing frustration to grow,” he said.
Sharma said the BJP would continue its public outreach programme across Jammu and Kashmir and raise issues brought before it through constitutional and democratic forums.
He assured the delegations that their concerns would be pursued with the appropriate authorities, including through the Legislative Assembly and, where necessary, with the Central Government.
“Our responsibility as the Opposition is to listen to the people, raise their issues in the Assembly and ensure that the government is held accountable,” Sharma said. ANB
