Srinagar, Sept 15: ANB :Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday flagged off the first-ever dedicated parcel train service from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, marking a historic step for the transportation of Kashmiri apples to national markets.
Sharing the development on X, the LG expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "ushering a new era of trade and business for apple growers and traders of the Valley."
"This dedicated freight service will significantly reduce transit time, increase income opportunities for thousands of farmers, and give a major boost to the agricultural economy of Jammu and Kashmir," Sinha said.
Officials said the train will ensure quicker, safer, and more economical movement of apple consignments from Kashmir to Delhi and other parts of the country, providing much-needed relief to growers ahead of the peak harvesting season.
The initiative is seen as a transformative step in strengthening agri-business and enhancing the competitive edge of Kashmiri apples in the national market. ANB
