Lieutenant Governor Attends Closing Ceremony of Mega Eye Camp ‘Op Drishti’ at Command Hospital Northern Command, Udhampur

Udhampur, 22 November 2025: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended the closing ceremony of the mega eye camp ‘Op Drishti’, organised for veterans, Veer Naris, and civilians at Command Hospital Northern Command, Udhampur.

The four-day camp featured cataract surgeries conducted by a specialised team of eye surgeons from Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor praised the Indian Army for its selfless service, supreme sacrifices, and vital role in fostering unity, national integration, and sustainable peace in Jammu & Kashmir. He commended the Northern Command, Armed Forces Medical Services, Army Hospital (R&R), and the entire medical team for upholding the highest ideals of humanitarian service. He also acknowledged the contributions of Brig. Dr. Sanjay Mishra, renowned eye specialist from Army Hospital (R&R), for his dedicated service to society.

“Leadership qualities are essential in shaping fearless soldiers and dedicated officers who lead from the front and set examples for others. This camp reflects such leadership, inspiring communities and contributing to a healthier society,” the Lt Governor said.

He encouraged people to participate in eye donation and motivate others to do the same. Highlighting the importance of such medical camps, he noted that they help raise awareness about vision-related ailments and ensure that crucial eye care reaches underserved populations, particularly in remote regions where resources and awareness may be limited.

The Lieutenant Governor also saluted the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces in addressing ongoing security challenges. He emphasised the need for continuous vigilance in the face of rapidly evolving threats, noting the recent dismantling of a pan-India terror network by Jammu and Kashmir Police. “We must remain alert to safeguard the nation’s honour, protect our borders, and uphold our unity and integrity,” he said.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi conveyed their greetings through video messages, applauding the Northern Command, AFMS, and all those involved in the initiative. An educational handbook on quality eye care was also released during the event.

The camp benefited residents from far-flung districts including Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, and Ramban, with more than 1,000 individuals screened and over 300 surgeries performed.

The event was attended by Shri Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly; Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C Northern Command; Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin, Director General AFMS; Lt Gen CG Muralidharan, Director General Medical Services (Army); Brig.
