MoD Signs Rs 661.50 Crore Contract for BrahMos Fire Control Systems and Launchers for Indian Navy

New Delhi, October 6: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and Launchers for Indian Navy ships. The contract, signed under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category in New Delhi, was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The project carries a minimum 68 per cent indigenous content, reinforcing the government’s efforts to promote domestic defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign technology. It is also expected to encourage the participation of several Indian industries, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and generate employment over a period of three years. According to the Ministry of Defence, the procurement will further strengthen India’s maritime security architecture and enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. The contract also marks an important step towards indigenisation of advanced military technologies and strengthening the country’s indigenous defence ecosystem. The BrahMos weapon system, deployed aboard several frontline Indian Navy warships, serves as the Navy’s primary Surface-to-Surface Missile (SSM) system for maritime strike operations. The system is capable of engaging both land and sea targets at extended ranges with high precision while travelling at supersonic speeds, providing the Indian Navy with a potent long-range strike capability. The latest procurement is expected to further enhance the combat readiness of frontline naval platforms while contributing to the government’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the defence sector.
