Seven Arrested in Separate Drug Peddling Cases in Budgam, Anantnag; Contraband Recovered

Srinagar, October 6: Police have arrested seven persons in separate cases of alleged drug peddling in Budgam and Anantnag districts and recovered various quantities of contraband substances, officials said on Monday. In Budgam, during naka checking at Hyderpora, a police team from Police Post Humhama intercepted a WagonR bearing registration number JK04J-6805. Two persons travelling in the vehicle, identified as Aejaz Ahmad Bhat alias Aej Gyale, son of Abdul Rehman Bhat, and Tariq Ahmad Paul, son of Ghulam Rasool Paul, both residents of Narkara, were apprehended. A search of the vehicle and the accused led to the recovery of 151 grams of heroin, police said. In another operation, police personnel conducting routine patrolling at West End Colony, Hyderpora, intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK01AX-6404. The occupants were identified as Faisal Ahmad Shah alias Afreed Kalia, son of Gulzar Ahmad Shah, and Ubaid Feroz Zargar, son of Feroz Ahmad Zargar, both residents of Mohanpora, Narkara. Approximately 4 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered during the search. In a third operation, a police team from Police Post Humhama, while conducting routine checking near the Airport Drop Gate, apprehended a person during screening. A search of his baggage resulted in the recovery of 69 grams of cannabis and 212 grams of poppy straw. The accused was identified as Shalu E.S., a resident of Kerala. Meanwhile, in Anantnag district, a police team from Police Post Sangam, during naka checking at Batengoo Crossing near Beacon, intercepted Aamir Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Batengoo. Police said 140 grams of ganja was recovered from his possession. In another operation at G.B. Khalil, Naina–Tulkhan Crossing, the same police post team intercepted Zaffar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh, a resident of Parimpora, Srinagar, presently residing at G.B. Khalil, Naina. During checking, police recovered 38.87 grams of charas from his possession. Police said cases under the relevant provisions of law have been registered in all the incidents and investigations have been initiated. J&K Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling and illicit trafficking, stating that sustained operations would continue to target narcotics networks and prevent the spread of drug abuse in society.
