NIA Conducts Searches in Srinagar, Shopian in Jamaat-e-Islami Terror Funding Case

Srinagar/New Delhi, May 25: The National Investigation Agency on Monday conducted searches at three locations in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a terror funding case linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami organisation. According to an official press release, the searches were carried out in Srinagar and Shopian districts and resulted in the seizure of several incriminating financial documents and electronic gadgets suspected to be linked with the activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and its associated trusts and organisations in Jammu and Kashmir. The agency stated that the searches were conducted as part of its investigation in case RC-03/2021/NIA/DLI related to the separatist and secessionist activities of the banned outfit, which has been declared an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. According to the NIA, investigations have revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami was allegedly involved in collecting funds domestically and internationally in the name of charity, welfare, health and education activities, and diverting those funds towards violent and secessionist activities in the Valley and other parts of the country. The agency further alleged that the organisation channelled funds to proscribed militant outfits, including Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, through organised networks of cadres. The NIA also claimed that the conspiracy involved radicalisation and recruitment of Kashmiri youth for carrying out secessionist activities. Officials said the investigation is continuing to dismantle the alleged terror funding and separatist network operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
