Srinagar: In continuation of the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s public outreach initiative, Srinagar Police organized a series of Lok Darbar-cum-awareness programmes under the ‘Thana Diwas’ initiative across multiple police establishments in the district.
The programmes were conducted at nine police stations and one police post, including Panthachowk, Khanyar, Nigeen, Rajbagh, R.M. Bagh, Shaltang, Nowhatta, Saddar, Zakoora, and Police Post Urdu Bazar. Senior officers, along with supervisory and jurisdictional officials, presided over the meetings, which witnessed active participation from civil society members, including Auqaf Committees, trade bodies, transporters, Panchayati Raj representatives, and other prominent citizens.
The initiative provided an interactive platform for the public to raise concerns related to policing and civil administration. Police officials also sensitized participants about newly introduced criminal laws, aimed at enhancing legal awareness among the العامة.
A notable event was held by Police Station Shalteng at Imam Bargah, Gund Hassi Bhat, which saw significant participation from residents of Sozeith, Lawaypora, and adjoining areas. The programme was chaired by G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, SSP Srinagar, along with SDPO West and SHO Shalteng.
During the interaction, participants reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and communal harmony and assured full cooperation in curbing drug abuse and other criminal activities. A written assurance to this effect was also submitted.
Officials assured that police-related grievances would be addressed on priority, while issues concerning civil administration would be taken up with the relevant authorities for timely resolution. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening police-public partnership and ensuring public order across the district. ANB
