Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh witnessed a sharp dip in minimum temperatures on Friday, with several places slipping below the freezing point, intensifying the ongoing cold wave.


Srinagar:12:12:25:ANB: the Kashmir Valley, Pulwama emerged as the coldest location, recording a bone-chilling –5.5°C, followed closely by Shopian at –5.0°C, Baramulla at –4.7°C, Anantnag and Pahalgam at –4.6°C, and Zethan Rafiabad at –4.8°C.
Srinagar, the summer capital, settled at –3.6°C, while its airport zone dipped further to –4.0°C. Awantipora and Budgam also recorded severe cold at –4.2°C and –4.3°C respectively.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing destination, registered 0.0°C, while Kokernag remained relatively milder at –0.7°C. Kulgam and Sonamarg recorded –0.6°C and –1.3°C respectively.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained above freezing but noticeably colder. Jammu city recorded 8.5°C, while Rajouri dipped to 1.6°C and Bhaderwah to 1.9°C. Udhampur, Ramban, and Banihal remained between 2°C to 4°C, indicating a significant overnight chill.

The Ladakh region continued to witness harsh winter conditions, with Leh freezing at –7.8°C, making it one of the coldest spots in the wider region. Kargil and Nubra Valley followed closely with –7.0°C and –6.3°C respectively.

As the cold wave intensifies, authorities have advised residents to take precautions against frost-related illnesses and traffic disruptions due to icy conditions on higher reaches.
