LG Manoj Sinha Attends Closing Ceremony of ‘Jashn-e-Dal’ Water Sports at Dal Lake

Srinagar, September 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended the closing ceremony of Jashn-e-Dal, a water sports festival organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police at Dal Lake.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor lauded J&K Police for its vital role in nation-building, upholding the rule of law, ensuring public safety, and combating terrorism. “The proactive engagement of Jammu and Kashmir Police with communities and its initiatives for youth empowerment are truly commendable. The force has worked with integrity and dedication to safeguard the nation’s internal security,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of such events, Sinha praised J&K Police for organising the annual tournament at the iconic Dal Lake with the aim of engaging youth and fostering unity, harmony, and camaraderie. “Initiatives like Jashn-e-Dal, Pedal for Peace, marathons, football and cricket tournaments are not just sporting activities but symbols of a new and positive chapter for our youth,” he remarked.

Calling upon athletes to serve as role models, the LG urged them to inspire young people to pursue their dreams and stay away from drugs. “Sports is a unifying force. I want our youth to act as powerful agents of change by leveraging their energy, discipline, perseverance, and creativity,” he added.

The LG also stressed the need for young people to take an active role in nation-building, community service, and climate action. He noted that public participation in conserving lakes, rivers, and natural resources has shown encouraging results in recent years, reminding the youth of their responsibility towards environmental preservation.

Sinha further appealed to the young generation to lead community service campaigns during the upcoming Sewa Parv from September 17. He called for active participation in cleanliness drives, plantation programmes, and initiatives to support weaker sections of society in collaboration with J&K Police.

At the event, the Lieutenant Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and felicitated the winners. The three-day festival witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 750 athletes across different water sports disciplines.

DGP J&K, Nalin Prabhat; Special DG Coordination, S.J.M. Gillani; ADGP Armed, Anand Jain; senior police and civil officers; members of water sports associations; prominent sports personalities and large numbers of youth were present on the occasion.
