Srinagar, Mar 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today handed over appointment letters to 27 Next of Kins (NoKs) of victims of terrorism from the Kashmir Division during a function held at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar.
Appointment letters were also distributed to 22 Next of Kins of deceased government employees under the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme–2022 and SRO-43.
Reiterating his commitment to ensuring justice for every terror-affected family, the Lieutenant Governor said that all pending cases related to victims of terrorism would be reopened and investigated to bring the perpetrators to justice. Paying homage to civilian martyrs, he said that for decades the families of innocent people who fell to terrorists’ bullets had waited for justice and recognition.
The Lieutenant Governor said that the campaign launched from Baramulla last year had provided these families with support, courage and renewed self-confidence. He added that the administration has succeeded in dispelling the shadow of injustice and ushering in a new dawn of justice at the doorsteps of victims’ families.
According to him, nearly 400 Next of Kins of terror victims have been provided government employment so far, and the administration will continue these efforts until every affected family receives support.
LG Sinha emphasized that providing jobs to victims’ families is not merely an administrative exercise of signing files or filling vacancies, but a sincere commitment to deliver justice. He said the administration is determined to ensure that no terror-affected family is neglected or forgotten.
The Lieutenant Governor also stated that lands or houses forcibly taken from terror-affected families would be freed and returned to their rightful owners. He directed the Home Department to conduct a comprehensive review of cases related to property encroachment involving victims of terrorism and assured that pending matters would be investigated in a transparent and impartial manner.
He further said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi several initiatives have been taken over the past five to six years with the aim of building a Jammu and Kashmir defined not by the pains of its past but by confidence, dignity and opportunity.
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to the rehabilitation of terror victims, the Lieutenant Governor said special attention will be given to those who lost their eyesight or are living with severe disabilities due to terrorist attacks. A comprehensive framework is being prepared for their rehabilitation, while timelines have also been set for providing housing and other essential assistance to affected families.
Calling upon people to maintain unity, LG Sinha urged citizens to remain vigilant against divisive and separatist elements trying to disturb peace in the region. He said the administration, police and security forces are working with a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism to dismantle terror networks and ensure lasting peace and stability.
Several senior officials, including Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary GAD M. Raju, IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, along with representatives of social organisations and family members of terror victims, were present at the event.
