Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said it was a matter of immense pride that young women secured nearly 60 percent of the degrees awarded at the 21st Convocation of the University of Kashmir, underscoring a significant shift in the region’s educational landscape.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister commended the outstanding performance of female students, stating that their academic success reflects determination, resilience and a growing commitment to higher education among young women in Jammu and Kashmir.
He observed that the achievement marks an encouraging transition towards greater gender equity and empowerment. “Jammu and Kashmir has moved from the paradigm of ‘Women’s Welfare’ to ‘Women-led Development’,” he said, highlighting the government’s focus on creating opportunities that enable women to take leadership roles across sectors.
The Chief Minister further emphasized that sustained investment in education and equal opportunities would play a pivotal role in shaping a progressive and inclusive future for the Union Territory.
