CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates Rotary Satellite Club in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, September 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the Rotary Satellite Club-Kashmir Valley, marking the beginning of a new Rotary platform focused on community service and social development in the region. The new club has been established with the support of Rotary International District 3141, which covers Mumbai and comprises more than 100 member clubs, through the Rotary Club of Dahanu. Speaking at the inaugural function, the Chief Minister welcomed the initiative and appreciated Rotary International District 3141 and the Rotary Club of Dahanu for expanding their community-service activities to Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah highlighted Rotary’s longstanding contribution to healthcare, education, sanitation, environmental protection and community development, and said the organisation could play a meaningful role in addressing local social needs. He also stressed the importance of supporting Kashmiri artisans and preserving the region’s traditional handicrafts through skill development, innovation, improved market access and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The Chief Minister said Rotary could also contribute to strengthening the tourism and hospitality sectors through professional training, youth engagement and initiatives aimed at promoting responsible tourism. He urged the newly installed Board of Directors to identify local priorities, engage closely with communities and develop sustainable projects in coordination with government departments and other institutions. Referring to Rotary International’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” the Chief Minister said sustained and community-oriented service can contribute to long-term social development. He also congratulated individuals recognised for their contributions to tourism, art, hospitality and public service in Jammu and Kashmir, and extended his best wishes to the Rotary Satellite Club-Kashmir Valley for its future initiatives and contribution to public welfare. Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs Tanvir Sadiq and Salman Ali Sagar, District Governor Rotary Club of Dahanu Rtn. Rajan Dua, District Governor Rotary District 3070 Rtn. Anil Singhal, Regal President Rtn. Tanveer Shah and Director, Mushtaq Group of Hotels, Dr Mushtaq Chaya, were present on the occasion. The programme also featured the installation of the Regal Board of Directors and the presentation of awards recognising contributions to society.
