Jammu Marathon Reflects Transformational Change in J&K , Mega Sporting Event to Boost Tourism, Economy and Fitness Movement in UT: LG Manoj Sinha


Jammu, March 29, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday felicitated the winners of the Jammu Marathon at MA Stadium, stating that the event symbolizes the profound transformation witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said that peace, prosperity and improved enabling conditions have positioned the Union Territory as a destination for world-class events, adding that Jammu and Kashmir has finally secured its rightful place on the global stage after decades.
Highlighting the growing prominence of the event, he noted that Jammu has firmly established itself on the global running map. He expressed confidence that the marathon would significantly boost tourism in the region, benefiting trade and business while ushering in a new phase of comprehensive development.
Referring to the spirit of marathon running, the Lieutenant Governor remarked that the event represents perseverance and steady progress, where participants focus not on accolades but on taking the next step. He said this principle mirrors the developmental journey of Jammu and Kashmir, which has steadily progressed towards a new identity as a hub of peace, prosperity and international-standard sporting events.
The Lieutenant Governor further stated that the idea of organizing a marathon in the region, first conceptualized during a Government of India meeting in December 2023, was aimed at projecting a new Jammu and Kashmir on the global sporting मंच. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, the Union Territory is showcasing its vast tourism potential worldwide.
Describing the marathon as a historic milestone, he said long-cherished aspirations of the people are now turning into reality. He added that participants not only experienced personal achievement through the event but also witnessed the sweeping changes taking place across Jammu and Kashmir.
Emphasizing public participation, the Lieutenant Governor observed that the Union Territory is setting new benchmarks in development, driven by the unwavering resolve of its citizens. He also highlighted that initiatives like the marathon are fostering a renewed sporting culture and contributing to the broader “Fit India” movement.
The first-ever International Half Marathon in Jammu, organized by the Tourism Department, featured 21 km, 10 km and 5 km categories and saw participation from over 3,000 runners from across India and abroad.
Among those present on the occasion were Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti, along with senior civil and police officials.
Noted personalities including Milind Soman and Gul Panag, besides sportspersons, citizens and youth in large numbers, also attended the felicitation ceremony.
